Probably the best Wire Haired Fox Terrier breeders

My name is Stephen, and my lifelong journey with Wire Haired Fox Terriers is a tale filled with heartwarming memories. From the day I was born, my father gifted me my very first Wire Haired Fox Terrier, Nellie. Those 14 unforgettable years were brimming with laughter, adventure, and unwavering companionship.

Nellie’s Legacy Lives On

In loving memory of Nellie, we’ve dedicated a page to her antics and adventures. So, take a moment to explore the heartwarming stories that will make you smile and reminisce.

A WHFT Lover for Over 60 Years

With over six decades of experience as a Wire Haired Fox Terrier owner, I have a piece of advice for those intrigued by this charismatic breed: immerse yourself in knowledge. Dive deep into understanding every facet of the breed and its charming quirks.

Fox Terriers: A World of Unparalleled Charisma

They’re an intriguing blend of funny, affectionate, loyal, intelligent, and sometimes, delightfully ignorant. But once you welcome a Fox Terrier into your life, you’ll discover why no other breed can quite compare. The journey of a Fox Terrier owner is an exhilarating one, with many surprises yet to be unveiled.

Wire and Smooth Haired: A Tale of Two Personalities

While some may claim the Wire and Smooth Haired Fox Terriers are distinct breeds, the truth is quite the opposite. I’ve raised and cherished both, and I can attest to their inseparable nature when it comes to temperament, tenacity, and that unique aloofness that only a Fox Terrier can gracefully exude.

A Compact Size with a Heart Full of Love

These small to medium-sized dogs boast a delightful, loving temperament. They relish exercise, though it need not be excessive. What they truly adore is a consistent routine, which brings them a sense of security and contentment.

The Myth of the Non-Shedding Fox Terrier

Contrary to popular belief, Fox Terriers do shed, but it’s a manageable affair with light grooming. Notably, their fur is less likely to trigger allergies in people sensitive to dog hair, akin to poodles.

Life with a Fox Terrier: A Never-Ending Party

Fox Terriers thrive at the center of any social gathering, embodying gregariousness, outgoing spirit, and a love for fun. These well-bred, socialized companions will fill your life with boundless love and everlasting joy. You’ll never feel alone with a Fox Terrier by your side!

The Annual Breed Average inbreeding coefficient for the WHFT is currently 11.7% (Nov 2019). The inbreeding coefficient between Camiro and Amber is 0.

Follow this link to the Kennel Clubs, Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) calculators for a Kennel Club dogs COI.

Breeding for a low coefficient of inbreeding, also known as COI, involves choosing two dogs that are not closely related genetically. This can be achieved by carefully considering the pedigree of each dog and selecting breeding pairs that have the lowest possible COI.

The COI measures how related two dogs are in a given pedigree. The pedigree is a record of a dog’s ancestors, and the COI is calculated by examining how many common ancestors the two dogs share. The higher the COI, the more closely related the two dogs are, and the greater the risk of inherited health problems.

Breeding for a low COI involves identifying dogs with different pedigrees and breeding them together. This means avoiding breeding dogs that are closely related, such as siblings or parent and offspring. Instead, breeders may choose dogs from different lines, so that their pedigrees only overlap slightly.

By breeding for a low COI, breeders can help to reduce the risk of inherited health problems and improve the overall health of the breed. However, it is important to remember that other factors, such as temperament and conformation, should also be considered when selecting breeding pairs.

Follow the link to find out the potential inbreeding coefficient of the pups mating your bitch with Jack. Enter for the Sire – Jack Sparrow of WIre Ground at Delwires (IMP PRT).

No mating will be allowed if any potential mating results with puppies which would have an inbred coefficient of above 5%. This decision is based upon 20 years of research carried out by The Institute of Canine Biology on all pedigree breeds. They stated that for the Wire Haired Fox Terrier to have a sustainable healthy population moving into the future, they should never be bred with an Inbred Coefficient above 8%.

After an awful start trying to purchase a WFT from a not so good breeder I was almost going to change my mind and go for a different breed. I was advised by a lady on a fox terrier site to contact Delwires. I was apprehensive but decided to make an enquiry. I was given so much help from Stephen Delaney and waited until one of Jack Sparrows puppies was available. I have had Nellie now for 5 weeks and she is just a dream. Stephen is always there to help with any advice needed and I would definitely recommend this breeder . We met up this weekend for the Delwires WFT walk in Stafford and it was amazing. It was great to meet Stephen and his family, Jack Sparrow and all the other WFT family who turned up for the walk.

I had several greet conversations with Stephen before our new home was ready for a puppy, and he was always very helpful and full of good advice and information. We were impressed with his breeding programme and felt confident that he could provide us with a healthy, well adjusted family pet. The day came when we finally brought Monty home and the whole family are totally smitten. He is our third WHFT so we know they are dogs with character, and Monty is certainly that! Thanks to being brought up as part of Stephen's family he clearly loves children and is not afraid of loud noises or new experiences, he is ready to play at every opportunity, learns so quickly, he makes us laugh all the time, and he loves to be loved! Thank you for our beautiful puppy, we have no hesitation in recommending Delwires to anyone who is prepared for a small but mighty dog to join their family!

Stephen is certainly knowledgeable in all wire haired fox terrier matters. He was extremely helpful, and through his extensive contact network found us exactly what we were looking for. We are now the proud owners of a gorgeous little girl pup who was sired by his very handsome ‘Jack Sparrow’ dog. Many thanks!

First connected with Stephen Delaney 11 years ago as we were looking for a WHFT. We have had bad experience before with breeders (our two previous dogs were very sick / inbred but we didn’t know that as breeder didn’t say). When we connected with Stephen / DELWIRES , 11 years ago, we immediately felt reassured and he was very patient with us as we asked everything we could think of. We got our first WHFT with him - Nellie - who for the last 11 years we absolutely adore. Best personality, smart, brilliant. Perfect. She’s now 11 and we decided to get a second dog. Of course there is no one else we would rather go to than Stephen. We phoned him up and he immediately put us in touch with a litter ready to leave soon. Ever since picking up our new pup we have been in heaven. Stephen was so kind to help us also this time too with info and vets and pick up. Stephen cares for the dogs in a way I haven’t seen another breeder do. This is his passion. He truly cares about the welfare of the animals and his breeding health score is so good and so low because he doesn’t inbreed. We are so so excited for many many more years to come of DELWIRES WHFT fun with Nellie and our new pup Rúa. Honestly Stephen changed our lives and not a day goes by where we aren’t laughing and giggling with our dogs. Another bonus has been developing a friendship with Stephen online - and the fellow delwires community has been amazing!! We are all one big family. Thank you again Stephen !!!

“If you are looking for a Wire Haired Fox Terrier, call Delwires and speak to Stephen Delaney. He is the best WHFT breeder in England.” That was the advice that was given to me by a dog owner when I stopped to admire her gorgeous and friendly WHFT on the streets of London. I called the next day and Stephen had just had a litter with Claire! We now have our own beautiful pup - Rex of Chiswick Gardens (Rexie)! Rexie is show stopping gorgeous and more importantly intelligent, fun loving, friendly and fun! Stephen was a joy to work with. As a Ife-long WHFT owner, his knowledge of the breed is amazing and he is generous to share that considerable knowledge. He is also fastidious about the purity of the breed and you can buy his puppies with absolute confidence about their health and bloodlines. Stephen always updated us regularly with photos and videos of Rexie until we picked him up, and continued to be there are needed offer us advice once we brought our puppy home. Stephen was also hugely helpful in navigating the process of getting Rexie to the U.S. after our time in London ended. Thank you, Stephen, for one of the best additions to our family - our own Delwires Wire Haired Fox Terrier!

Purchasing a well-bred dog from another country can be quite overwhelming the first time around. However, we were pleased to find Delwires is not a run-of-the-mill breeder. We love the fact they pay close attention to bloodline and genetics for the best health of the dog. We received our energetic Wesley from England here in Florida in great condition and Delwires made the whole experience completely satisfying. They were always available for our questions and handled the lengthy pre-transportation process, along with passport and shipping quite professionally, making it possible for those like us who have no international shipping experience, to have an enjoyable experience. We gladly recommend them for your next selection of a wonderful Wire Hair Fox Terrier. Thank you! Delwires

Both Stephen and his daughter have a great knowledge of and love for WHFTs. Buying a puppy should never be taken lightly, Stephen was and still is available with reassuring practical advice. I’m proud to be the owner of a Delwires fox terrier, a puppy that has been breed responsibly by a breeder that really cares.
